Acura Mdx Gas Mileage Fuel Economy And Features
In 2007, the MDX, a luxury SUV crossover in the auto world, came out as Acura introduced its second-generation version. In 2008 there are very few changes, which are mainly a new auto-dimming rearview mirror. Some are concerned about the Acura Mdx gas mileage, which doesn't fare well in the changing times of worry over fuel economy and greenhouse emissions.
Some of the redesign features last year started with improving its bending strength. This makes the new MDX bigger in width and length. It is also lower to the ground than the first generation models. Acura also redesigned the "Super Handling All-Drive" (SH-AWD) system. This system makes the outside wheels spin faster than the inside wheels when turning so that torque can be transferred where it's needed most for better handling.
The Acura was also beefed up on the safety features front. Not only are top rankings given to the MDX in crash tests, but it also is equipped with an impressive set of safety features. Front crash distribution points protect the passengers. A number of standard safety features also include front airbags, knee bolsters for front seats, front active head restraints, side airbags, and three-row side curtain airbags. These airbags are also equipped with rollover triggers.
The feature that is great for power but not so great for the Acura Mdx gas mileage is the new 3.7-liter V6 engine. It is the largest and most powerful of any Acura vehicle. With 300 hp, VTEC engine does run clean; however, the engine's high compression means you have to buy premium fuel. With a gas mileage rating of 17mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, drivers are not going to find the fuel economy that many consumers are looking for now. Yes, it can deliver power, but at a cost.
The size of the Mdx allows seating for seven passengers with a third row. Most reviewers feel the third row made strictly for kids. The Acura Mdx has plenty of space with 15 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. If you fold the third row seat down, it makes for 43 cubic feet. If you fold both the third and second row down you can have a total of 83.5 cubic feet.
If you need something for a large family and with lots of power, the Acura Mdx gas mileage might not be large enough to factor in turning it down. Compared to other larger vehicles, the mpg ratings are just as good if not better. However, if you do not need all of the cargo space, then the fuel economy might play a large role in deciding on this vehicle compared to more efficient autos on the market.
